Character development and storylines make great americana songs.
With a background in the stage and the punk side of the New York music scene, Loose Cattle’s leaders Michael Cerveris and Kimberley Kaye may not have been an obvious bet to form an americana band and base themselves in New Orleans. However, the fact that their latest album “Someone’s Monster” is released on Single Lock Records, an independent label based in the Muscle Shoals area of Alabama that has a stated aim of bringing the current music of the South to a wider audience, and Lucinda Williams, Patterson Hood and Cajun maestro Louis Michot guest on the album, is clear evidence that Loose Cattle are serious about their music. Americana UK’s Martin Johnson caught up with Michael Cerveris and Kimberley Kaye to discuss the new album and why they have been drawn to country rock and New Orleans. Michael Cerveris shares his own Appalachian roots, and Kimberley Kaye agrees that they are drawn to character development and storylines in their songs, she also explains why Lady Gaga’s ‘Joanne’ was perfect for the Loose Cattle treatment, and a cameo from Lucinda Williams. Finally, they both confirm how atmospheric Louisiana’s legendary Dockside Studio is.

RS calls it nonetheless "an alt-country soundtrack to our modern times, filled with social commentary and…
