NYC-based singer-songwriter Charles Ellsworth is set to release his much-anticipated fifth album “Cosmic Cannon Fodder” on Burro Borracho Records in May 2025. The album will feature Ellsworth’s refined alt-country sound with his unbridled seasoned storytelling at the forefront. The eleven-song album takes the listener through a lyrical journey of resilience and explores what it means to be a human in the modern world. Ellsworth’s perspective and fearless search for truth mean nothing is left hidden in this upcoming collection of songs.
“To me, the album is about love, resistance, and loss. It’s about fighting through the fear of vulnerability to tell someone how you feel. It’s about fighting through the fear of repercussions for speaking truth to power.” says Ellsworth ” It’s about showing love through actions that support your community and it’s about trying to maintain your humanity through the depraved insanity of modern life. The title ‘Cosmic CannonFodder’ was inspired by the thought that as far as we know the big bang happened and every atom that ever was has just been pinballing through space for billions of years. Somehow here we are trying to find meaning, love, and community somewhere in the middle of the chaos.”
Ellsworth is an NYC singer-songwriter whose career has spanned decades and has taken him all over the globe. His musical journey started as a teenager when he took lessons in the back of a guitar store in Arizona. Shortly after, Ellsworth became the bass player for indie-pop outfit Alaska & Me. The band saw success as a regional act and toured the West Coast until their 2009 split. After moving to Salt Lake City, Ellsworth began to write his own music and quickly found a home in the burgeoning local Americana scene. Over the next five years, he released multiple solo albums and an EP. During that time, Ellsworth then spent several years touring nationally and internationally as a solo artist. In 2015, he brought his red-dirt rock to Brooklyn and has since released three albums. His third LP “Honeysuckle Summer” (reviewed here) was recorded with Joe Reinhart (Hop Along, Algernon Cadwallader). In 2022, he opened for Sarah Shook & The Disarmers at the renowned Americana venue, Mercury Lounge in Tulsa, where he struck up a friendship with Disarmers guitarist Blake Tallent who he partnered with to produce this latest release.
