Half Moon Putney also hosts Hans Chew, Gasoline Gypsies, Dylan Earl & Jack Browning on the same weekend
Chuck Prophet and his Cumbia Shoes were the Sunday headliners for the now-cancelled “Black Deer In The City” festival (see last week’s story here), but never a man to let adversity get in his way, he has pivoted quickly and with the help of some canny promoters arranged a gig at The Oslo in Hackney for the same date, 26th October.
Chuck will be speaking to AUK about the new gig and the rest of the tour on the weekly AUK Podcast, which comes out next Monday. Keep an eye out for it as he is always good value and great company.
Tickets for Black Deer are not valid for this gig or the one below, and should have been refunded or are in the process of being refunded. Tickets for the new gig are available here.
Chuck is not the only phoenix to rise from the proverbial ashes; this is the first time in over 8 years that the acclaimed pianist and singer songwriter, Hans Chew, has toured the UK, and the very first time multi-award-winning Michigan natives The Gasoline Gypsies tour the UK. As The Gasoline Gypsies said, “If life gives you Lemons, make Lemonade”. And with Black Deer being cancelled, that is exactly what they are all doing. Both acts land on the 25th of October and perform at a very special afternoon shindig at ‘The Half Moon Putney’ presented by Brighthelmstone Promotions called ‘Americana on
the Thames’. And they are joined by Dylan Earl from Arkansas and Jack Browning fro,… Essex.
Hans Chew established himself as an acclaimed songwriter and musician with 2010’s debut “Tennessee & Other Stories…“, receiving Top 25 Albums of the Year from Uncut magazine and 4-stars from Rolling Stone. He has collaborated with artists such as Jack. Rose, Steve Gunn, Hiss Golden Messenger, Chris Forsyth, D. Charles Speer, Endless Boogie, and Garcia Peoples. His releases include, amongst others, 2014’s “Life & Love“, 2016’s “Unknown Sire“, and his fifth album “Land Of Dreams” is out now.
Eight-time Detroit Music Award winners The Gasoline Gypsies are four-part vocal harmonies, dual lead guitars, and a tasty rhythm section built on drums, bass, and keys. But the real magic in their music is born of a driving work ethic that’s earned them a reputation of being one of the tightest bands on the Mitten Music scene. Tickets available for this one are available from this link.
The hope is that all the people who have been disappointed and left holding hotel bookings in the capital will now have a couple of great events to go to and will not find themselves out of pocket.

Should have been, are being …….. might be refunded?
I’ve had no update since the holding email the agent sent on Friday.
Hi Ken
We have only heard that people ‘should’ be being refunded as to the timeline we have no further information Sorry can’t be more helpful
I chased the agency this morning …..
“We are continuing to follow up with the event organizer on this matter and want to assure you that we’re doing our best to get information of the refund – as mentioned on the email.
We appreciate your patience and understanding”
Sounds like nil progress to me.
