Classic Clips: Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks “Milk Shakin’ Mama” The Flip Wilson Show 1972

If asked to name the artist who has consistently provided me with the most sheer fun over the years, it can only be Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks – guaranteed to bring a smile to my face!  With many great clips to choose from, with his career spanning over 50 years up to his passing in 2016, I was tempted to choose one from his more recent repertoire ‘The Piano Has Been Drinking‘, his cover of the song by Tom Waits running my choice a close second, but this truly classic clip from 1972 was unmissable. Performing ‘Milk Shakin’ Mama‘ on US TV’s Flip Wilson Show, with the Lickettes Maryann Price and Naomi Eisenberg in fine voice, Dan shows that he’s not just the coolest dude in town, but also a pretty nifty mover who said ‘if you’re not smiling you must be dead?’
