Getting close to wrapping up Stephen Deusner’s book on Drive-By Truckers, Where the Devil Don’t Stay and am preparing to dive headlong into Cameron Crowe’s memoir, The Uncool. I requested it from my local library roughly a week ago. Much to my surprise, it arrived on Monday.
Bedroom rising from an old growth tree
Bringing out the sawmill, cutting the 12 inch beams
Building a pattern, the reservoir to fill with dreams
Rings like Saturn telling their old story…

Just shows the value of libraries I guess Joe. I'm reading Ian McEwan's latest "What We Can Know"
Just got a copy of “Living In The Present With John Prine” as a belated birthday present. I don’t believe it’s been reviewed yet at AUK, has anybody had the chance to read it yet?
I've just finished reading 'The Islander', Chris Blackwell's autobiography, written with Paul Morley. I found the writing style a little flat but the book is fascinating because I never realised just what an influential character Blackwell was. I knew the obvious stuff, like the collaboration with Joe Boyd that brought in artists like Fairport, Nick Drake and John Martyn, and his championing of the reggae seen and promotion of Bob Marley, but I hadn't realised he was the man behind Millie's 'My Boy Lollipop' or that he had launched Robert Palmer's solo career and a whole host of other things from the early 60s on. Fascinating stuff.
I read Chris Blackwell’s book last year Rick. I thought the insight and background information on all the artists he’d worked with was excellent, but did I feel that I actually was any the wiser to the man himself? Probably not.
Just started The Uncool - A Memoir by Cameron Crowe.

Recently finished The Devils by Joe Abercrombie. My favourite author and his latest his superb with all the rich characterisation we’ve come to love over the years.
Currently reading The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. I think Im right in saying this was a Pulitzer Prize winner. It’s a biggie at 800+ pages but I’d say it’s a struggle in parts. Let’s see how I feel at the end of it.
Finally got around to reading the Chris Barber autobiography Jazz Me Blues. It shines a light on a long gone era but key to subsequent UK musical developments.
