Thanks for this Paul, I can't wait to get dug in on why I think Fountains of Wayne were the greatest band to ever exist 🤣
Well, I seem to have managed to register, though I'm not entirely sure how. For what it's worth, I think Fountains of Wayne are OK.
If you'd said they were shit Rick we'd have our first forum ban! 🤣

Morning!
Well, that's put my mind at rest already! I wasn't sure if a lot of my music taste would fit in here but I love Fountains of Wayne! I first heard them when Liza Tarbuck played 'Radiation Vibe' on her radio show (If I recall she was on 6music at the time) and I bought 'Utopia Parkway' that weekend. Loved them ever since, I was sad and gutted when Adam died because they were a band that I never got to see live.
I like a lot of what could loosely be called guitar pop or power pop... but I like a lot of music these days from punk rock to acoustic country. I'm 55 and as a kid in the early 70's I spent a lot of time listening to my parents Monkees albums and watching the Monkees TV series and stuff like The Banana Splits and I think those musical influences have always been an element of what I enjoy listening to.
Chronologically, my music tastes start at The Monkees and 60's guitar pop, then onto 70's Punk, New Wave, Power Pop, 80's is mainly The Cramps, UK Psychobilly, Gothy stuff then onto US alternative rock like Pixies, Dinosaur Jr and UK indie, 90's was US alternative rock and UK indie (essentially anyone who played Reading Festival from 1991-1994). I got really into Rocket From The Crypt around then too. The late 90's were a bit lean for me but I really like all the 'garage rock revival' stuff from the early 2000's (White Stripes, Dirtbombs, Detroit Cobras etc) Around that time I started enjoying Brendan Benson and getting into slightly less noisy music. Hearing the Old 97's and loving them was a pivotal moment, which probably lead me on the path to being here now. And for the last 20 years (thanks to the internet) I've mainly been going back and listening to everything I'd missed, the whole 'alt-country' scene, lots of classic rock, southern rock, country.. stuff like The Sadies (which again I got into far too late) RIP Dallas.
a few bits I've been listening to a lot lately:
Rick White & The Sadies - It's almost the perfect combination of everything I love, 60's Psych pop mixed with Americana and a dash of alternative rock.
John Moreland - especially his 2 albums with The Back Gold Band and The Dust Bowl Souls album. I think they are criminally unknown albums. He seems to get more attention now for his stripped down acoustic albums, but these band albums are my favourites.
Drag The River - I've always loved ALL/Descendents so I found this band via Chad Price. The self titled album is my favourite, I've also been listening to Jon Snodgrass' various projects, bands and albums which I only discovered this year.
Anyway, I'm sure you don't want to hear my life story all in one go, so just to say it's cool to be here and hopefully I'll discover lots of new music to listen to along the way.
... on a final note, I adore Allison Moorer, what a beautiful voice.
@markamericana That's a really good and interesting choice. To be honest there's so many to chose from... but this one always brings me joy!
I love that keyboard line in the chorus, I love the middle 8 that just feels like the song is soaring with those backing vocals, then that goes into the instrumental is just killer, the m m m stutter after that .. not to mention the lyrics which are so clever and just so good. Dang it's like such a perfect song, lol.
Survival Car was my introduction to FOW. Those first three albums should be in everyones collection.
