New Jersey outfit CR & The White Lights have announced that their latest album, My Old Self, will be released on July 17th. This is the follow-up to 2023’s The Ghosts Are Coming Home, which was credited to CR & The Nones and is probably the ninth such release from CR Gennone under various guises. So new name and a new method are apparently the name of the game, as this album was produced over a weekend rather than agonised over several months.
Produced by a friend of the band, Phil Connor, and featuring Liam Bornovski’s pedal steel guitar, the album was recorded mostly live at Connor’s In The West studio in New Brunswick, NJ, over Fourth of July weekend 2024, apparently in 90-something degree weather with nominal air conditioning! Lead songwriter CR Gennone began writing the record when he had just lost his job and was in the process of moving in with his girlfriend. By all accounts, life inspired big questions, big anxieties about self-worth and security, and he found it hard not to find his way to the bottom of a bottle over and over.
The album features CR Gennone on vocals, guitar, piano/synth, James Abbott on guitar, Liam Bornovski on pedal steel, John Dewitt on bass, and Rich Slurry on drums, with contributions from Skylar Adler, Drew Sheldon, and Andrew Merclean, with the plan of releasing three singles before the album’s release date. Here’s the single Greatest Hits which is out today.
