Danny Burns, the Irish singer-songwriter, now based in South Carolina, has announced the release of his latest album “Southern Sky” via Bonfire Recording Co on 22nd August 2025.

The album is Burns’ third full-length album for Bonfire following on the heels of “North Country (2018) and “Promised Land” (2023).  Between them came an EP “Hurricane” which came out in the Spring of 2021. Collaborations are a feature of Burns’ recordings and fellow musicians who have guested on his records include Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Sarah Jarosz, Tim O’Brien, Tift Merritt and Steve Earle.

“Southern Sky” is described as inspired by the textures of the south.  Burns compares the theme of the project to the feeling of listening to “Southern Nights” by Allen Toussaint, where the storytelling traditions of Appalachia meet the twang of the Deep South.  His guests on the new album include Sam Bush, Bronwyn Keith-Hynes, Vince Gill, Tim O’Brien, and Ricky Skaggs.  “I try to bring in as many talented folks into the studios as possible,” Burns says. “I hope the fans enjoy the journey of these songs and all the sounds and people it takes to make these songs come to life — it takes a village.”

The lead single, ‘Blue Ridge Blue’ has been released to a lot critical and radio attention. Written by Jim Beavers, ‘Blue Ridge Blue’ is styled as an anthem for travellers, capturing the bittersweet mix of longing for home while embracing the excitement of new adventures. The track features the talents of Bush and Keith-Hynes, whose mandolin and fiddle work together to evoke the sounds of Appalachia, blending the spirit of the Blue Ridge Mountains with a sense of comfort and familiarity.
