Dolly Parton gives $1Million to Coronavirus research

The Country music legend that is Dolly Parton has a long history of charitable generosity – her Imagination Library for example has been responsible for providing more than 130million books to children.  As a side shoot from that endeavour – and as an assistance to relieving the boredom of children during the current lockdown – Ms Parton is launching a YouTube channel called ‘Goodnight With Dolly‘ which will feature readings of classic stories – starting with ‘The Little Engine That Could.‘   There’s even a little singing at the end – well, we are a music website after all.

Topping this however is the announcement that she will be donating $1million to research into a vaccine for Covid-19.  Making the announcement on Instagram Dolly Parton said: “My longtime friend Dr Naji Abumrad, who’s been involved in research at Vanderbilt for many years, informed me that they were making some exciting advancements towards that research of the coronavirus for a cure. I am making a donation of $1 million to Vanderbilt towards that research and to encourage people that can afford it to make donations.”

Here’s Dolly in a Bluegrass mood – naturally this comes from ‘Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountains Rise: A Benefit for the My People Fund.’  You have to admire the gal.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
