Dondréa “Northern Roots” – the North of North America

Dondréa is a Canadian singer-songwriter originally from Calgary (and currently based in Los Angeles) who uses her songwriting to explores themes of self-discovery and living in the present, drawing inspiration from nature and her everyday surroundings. Beginning her music career in a pop-punk band before transitioning into music supervision,  Dondréa spent over a decade licensing music for television and film projects like Degrassi. But it was her passion for songwriting that rekindled her love for creating music – and in June 2023, she released her first single in over 12 years, “First Time” , her journey of reconnecting with herself after experiencing intense burnout.

On ‘Northern Routes‘ Dondréa sings wistfully of a life that might have been, of a place that draws her back – it’s an emotional magnet that also comes with the pain of imagined loss, of the fateful paths untrodden.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
