Dream Team Triple Header: Lambchop, Booker T Jones, Karine Polwart

Now, you’re right, we normally only dip into the magical world of fantasy concerts as suggested by incongruously paired or tripled artists names in those oh so regular Songkick emails once a month.  These are the email headers which at the swiftest of glance taunt with a suggestion of a single bill of fare rather than separate gigs at different places at different times.  That is, and always has been, the weak raison d’etre of this feature – weak, but to quote Karine Polwart “you have to find joy where you can.”

So what could possibly bring together Scottish folkster Karine Polwart, soulfully funky Booker T. Jones (and we’re imaging the MGs are along for the ride as well, even though, yes technically that isn’t possible anymore), and a deep voiced and grumpy alt-Country hero?  Well, you’ll have noticed that today is the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year with a full 16 hours and 38 minutes of daylight to savour.  What better reason then for these three to get together to celebrate the sun coming up, the relaxed and chilled out soulful joy of endless sunshine, and to then sum up succinctly some of the many annoyances of endless sunshine, be it actual or metaphorical.

Of course, it’ll rain all day, won’t it….

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
