Exclusive AUK Mini-Gig: Joyann Parker

Joyann Parker refuses to be boxed into one specific genre. Her latest album, Lifelines (Hopeless Romantic Records, 2026), fuses soul, rock, blues and americanasounding both timeless and urgent. The album forms a deeply human collection of songs built on resilience and connection, exploring the invisible threads that carry us through hardship and healing; the moments, relationships, and choices that ultimately shape who we are.

Her hometown is Mellon, Wisconsin, and she now resides in St. Croix (unfortunately not the gorgeous and balmy Caribbean island, instead frigid Wisconsin). The good thing is, the town is located a hop, skip and jump (one mile by car) from the Twin Cities in Minnesota, where she honed her craft as a musician. Many of her songs are romantic, sometimes raucous but not cheesy. She offers: “I’ve been an artist for about 13 years but performing since I was two years old!” Where are the home videos?

Besides her own work, Parker has been known to put together tribute acts like the one for Patsy Cline. A writer for the Minneapolis Star-Ledger wrote that in this show, Parker “summons the requisite sadness and richness.”

In her AUK mini-gig, she accompanies herself on a 2025 Gibson Hummingbird, brand-new to her in October and one that was apparently constructed with XX chromosomes. “I’ve just always wanted one,” Parker said, “and when I found this one, ‘she’ fit like a glove, and I had to have her, so I sold two other guitars to get her. She was worth it.”

One of her singles is End of The Line, which emerges as a stirring anthem of resilience and renewal, echoing Parker’s belief that what feels like a final chapter may instead be the beginning of something greater. “It’s too late now, we’re too far down the road, this tank’s on E, nowhere left to go.” She recorded this song and two others from the basement studio in her home. Her notes on these three are below. If you would like to learn more about Parker and her music, here are links to her website, Spotify and Instagram.

  1. End of the Line: What may seem like the end of the line isn’t always the end. Instead, maybe it is a doorway to a fresh start, a part of a bigger story of redemption.
  2. Starting Line: Starting Line is about being in need of help and having the faith, however shaky it may be, to ask for that help. Admitting my wrongdoings, asking for forgiveness from those I’ve hurt, forgiving myself, and giving myself the grace to hope for a better future brings true change and a fresh start.
  3. Got Love: Inspired by a close friend’s journey to healing, Got Love is an uplifting anthem of hope and resilience, a song that moves the body, lifts the spirit, and reminds us of the good that still exists in the world.
