Exclusive AUK Mini-Gig: Sarah Jarosz

In the age of isolation, AUK is bringing you regular ‘mini-gigs’ to help connect you, dear reader, to the outside world.  We are featuring great artists performing fantastic songs, coming all the way from their home to yours to lift the gloom a little.  For folk and Americana fans around the world, Sarah Jarosz needs little introduction.  As part of folk-supergroup, I’m With Her, Jarosz won this year’s Grammy Award for Best American Roots Song for the 2019 single ‘Call My Name’.  That was her third Grammy.

When she picked up a mandolin at the age of nine, it was to set Jarosz on a fabulous musical journey, which continues with her first solo album since 2016’s Grammy-winning ‘Undercurrent’ on 5th June 2020.  ‘World on the Ground’, produced by John Leventhal (Rosanne Cash, Elvis Costello), is a collection of small-town, character-driven narratives, rich in detail and drama.  It promises to be one of this year’s essential listens.

For your enjoyment, Jarosz has recorded a marvellous Phil Collins cover, ‘Long Long Way to Go’, with Jeff Picker.  It sounds stunningly good, especially the emotive vocal and skilled guitar-work.  Relax.  Enjoy.  Share.  That’s what it’s all about.  And wash your hands.

‘World on the Ground’ is due out June 5th on Rounder Records.

CREDITS:
Sarah Jarosz – vocal, octave mandolin
Jeff Picker – electric bass
