Garrett Owen “No One To Save You” – Listen

Garrett Owen’s new song ‘No One to Save You Now‘ is a world-weary troubadour’s song – weary as hell and having to get ready for the show whilst managing a long-distance relationship which seems to be crumbling.  There’s desperation in the vocal, on this song from Owen’s new release ‘Quiet Lives.’

Owen lives that troubadour life, but the travelling came first – through Africa on the top of Landrovers as his missionary parents pursued their own vocation.  It sounds idyllic, but when they relocated back to Texas the adjustment took a heavy toll – trying to fit in didn’t work, to the point of a suicide attempt.  Music may not have been the only saving grace for Garrett Owen but it was certainly a help – although there’s a bleakness that is shot through this song he is out there singing them.  On the road.  Making phone calls.  Getting ready for the show.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
