Halifax (Canada) resident Gianna Lauren has released an intriguingly melodic album called ‘Vanity Metrics‘, her fourth collection. She spends it reflecting on relationships from different aspects, although the title is a dig at parts of the music industry machine – the followers you can buy, the likes you can inflate (surely not!), meaningless cartoon hearts you can tap.
‘Spark‘, though, is a deep dive into unrequited love “Before I die I wanna tell you I love you / But while I’m alive / I’m gonna hide” sings Gianna Lauren over a gentle backing of ingrained melancholy. Although this is no blind love, as there are more little digs: “you talk a lot about what you’re thinking / maybe you could do more listening.”
