Gianna Lauren “Spark” – Listen

Halifax (Canada) resident Gianna Lauren has released an intriguingly melodic album called ‘Vanity Metrics‘, her fourth collection.  She spends it reflecting on relationships from different aspects, although the title is a dig at parts of the music industry machine – the followers you can buy, the likes you can inflate (surely not!), meaningless cartoon hearts you can tap.

Spark‘, though, is a deep dive into unrequited love “Before I die I wanna tell you I love you / But while I’m alive / I’m gonna hide” sings Gianna Lauren over a gentle backing of ingrained melancholy.   Although this is no blind love, as there are more little digs: “you talk a lot about what you’re thinking  / maybe you could do more listening.
