Hayes Carll “High” – no, no, it’s about flying…

Hayes Carll has a new album ‘We’re Only Human‘ coming on August 8th and the sweet and floating ‘High‘ is the latest single from it.  ‘High‘ balances the anxieties of the world against the means of escaping from anxieties – no specific remedy is indicated to achieve this state, but as Carll sings, “I have chased a feeling all these years / Blocked by insecurities and fears / Oh it feels so good as that all disappears / I have chased this feeling all these years.”  ‘High‘ is, then, a reminder to stop, breathe and savour that state of mind when it arrives.  However it arrives.

Speaking of the new album ‘We’re Only Human’ Hayes Carll has said: “The record was inspired by a desire to start listening to my inner voice rather than running from it. The songs are my way of solidifying the lessons I’ve learned, not because I have all the answers, but because I need the reminder that we’re all only human.”

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
