Hudson Mueller lays out the pros and cons of having either Money or having Fame on a song that plays all the right cards musically – it sounds great and the lyrics really land. What more could you want? Money? Fame? But, as Mueller will tell you: “Fame is just a prison / With bars of solid gold / Money can be useful / But it’s poison to the soul.” He does acknowledge that having both might have some advantages.
Hudson Mueller was born in Austin, Texas, in 1981, and grew up next door to record producer Jon Foose and falling asleep to honky-tonk piano drifting through his bedroom walls. He started off singing in his church choir and spent a decade fronting the folk outfit The Hudsons before relocating to New York City, where he shifted gears to perform southern soul and rock with The Gold Magnolias. His musical influences are diverse – as a child he’d raid bargain bins for cassettes of Nat King Cole and The Kingston Trio, but there’s clearly some more Americana influences at work on ‘Money Vs Fame‘. The song is from his upcoming release ‘Welcome to Earth’, which is out on March 28th.
