When we say that Icarus Phoenix are friends of the site it is more true than that phrase sometimes conveys, as Drew Danburry is indeed both a long time friend of the site and a long time friend of Mark’s. So, no surprise then if we add that this latest song ‘Mark & Kyle‘ carries a very particular meaning, as Drew explains in verse:
“Mark has been a long time friend for twenty years at least.
He’s always wanted to be a parent.
Dreams come true.
Sometimes those dreams are difficult.
And wonderful.
It’s all part of the process of life I guess.
Right?”
‘Mark & Kyle‘ is, in every sense, a lovely song – it sounds like folk meeting dream-pop and it’s full of honest lyrics with a friend telling a friend what a wonderful parent he’s becoming, and how this family coming together brings new riches… and, yes, almost certainly endless surprises… for them both. And it carries an extra message “playing video games” is “time well spent” – time is all we really have to give and that means how we spend it – and who with – is the most important thing we can choose to do.
We don’t know for sure who did the single’s artwork, but we have a sneaking suspicion…
