Jim Basnight “Last Night” – Not such a good night…

Here to end the week is the latest single from the ridiculously prolific Jim Basnight.  Taken from his latest release, his sixth, on Power Popaholic, entitled ‘Early Years‘ which, as you may already have guessed, covers Basnight’s early recordings, but with a nice new shiny 2022 remastering.

Upbeat as it sounds ‘Last Night‘ was inspired by less fun events as Jim Basnightexplains: “‘Last Night’ I wrote in NYC in the spring of 1977, the day after I returned to my cheap 79th and Broadway Manhattan hotel room and found that it had been broken into and someone stole all my money, while I was at a rock show at CBGB’s. It was recorded in the summer of 1979 and at the time I wondered if the thick rich harmonies we did with producer Ned Neltner at the helm, fit a song like this. In retrospect with this great mastering job by Garey Shelton, a former bandmate of Ned’s, I think it’s perfect.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
