Josh Fortenbery “Sewing the Same Seam” – Hot bluegrass from a cold climate

‘Sewing the Same Seam’ is the lead single from Josh Fortenbery’s upcoming album ‘No Such Thing as Forever’.   From the first raspy fiddle note until the end of the song, this is salt of the earth bluegrass.  Fortenbery’s baritone voice carries a world-weariness that belies the upbeat playing of his band that sounds as if they are straight from the hills of Kentucky not the northern state of Alaska.

Reflecting on making the new album Fortenbery says, “I‘m just trying to be honest about my grief, anxiety, and carelessness, and hope that resonates with people,” he says. “I think a lot of folks feel disconnected from the world, not only because of the physical isolation over the last few years but also the increasing digital and cultural isolation we’ve slid into over the last decade. I’m trying to remember what ties me to the folks I love and folks I’ve never met.”

‘No Such Things Forever’ will be available 8th March 2024 on all streaming services.

I really enjoyed this! Josh Fortenbery, hmm? Never heard of him before, but I intend to hear more from him soon. One thing , though. this reminded me more of the truck stops of West Virginia than the hills of Kentucky, when I used to travel through those areas many years ago. Minor quibble.
