It took a photo finish to declare Maggie May Treanor the winner by a nose over Sorrel Nation in the Twang Factor 4 contest. Coming in third by a whisker over Steve Hewitt was Hannah Crossrose. Congratulations to these four musicians and all the others who took the time to send us their videos and make the fourth edition of the series a success.
As Treanor notes on her YouTube page: “I write sad/powerful americana songs to help you deal and help you heal.” She recorded a special, exclusive version of ‘This Time Emily’ as her submission for The Twang Factor. “I recorded it at Homefire Studio in Knaresborough, and it features the exceptional Rich Jevons on guitar. It’s in a different key to the original recorded version. The song is a feel-good americana track I wrote after a wild night in Mendocino, California, where I met a young runaway girl, part of an American underclass called the Rainbow Children, who live radically, existing far below the radar of conventional America. The song captures her courage and restless energy, and the stories we carry with us from chance encounters that stay with us long after the moment passes.”
Raised on a working horse farm, she offers a truly authentic sound that weaves a line between the classic country traditions of Emmylou Harris and the emotive storytelling of Jason Isbell. Steeped in the musical heritage of Irish folk and American Roots, her songwriting draws from a deep well of rural experience – as comfortable on horseback as she is on stage. Her English, Irish and Spanish roots infuse each song with a unique perspective, blending American musical traditions with the grit and authenticity of a classic folk storyteller.

Huge congratulations to Maggie! A very well-deserved win. It was an honor to be featured in this series alongside such great talent. Thanks to AUK for the opportunity! — Jon Harmon
At my age I often can’t remember what I was doing yesterday ….. however I’m (fairly) confident I voted for Maggie so I’m very pleased for her.
I did in fact see her perform live as support for Lynne Hanson at Kirton Lindsey, Lincs back in April. I fully endorse AUK’s Graeme Tait’s review; an outstanding talent.
