Mason Via “Love Train” – one train leaves town, hope aboard another

It’s true that we don’t feature a great number of people who have appeared on American idol (or, for that matter, the myriad of other musical talent shows around the world) but Mason Via is something of an exception.  Maybe it’s because he joined Old Crow Medicine Show. And maybe it’s because he has a new Bluegrass album set to be released this year on Mountain Fever Records.

Love Train‘ is the latest single from the upcoming album and sees trouble in the marshaling yard of passion “she says we are at the end of the line / She gave no warning signal, she never hit the breaks.” There’s not too much heartbreak involved since love, like trains, is something that can always come around again “There’s another whistleblowing / She’s been waiting around for me” Mason Via sings with a cavalier attitude to romance.

Mason is joined on the single by the accomplished talents of Nick Goad and Jacob Harbour on harmony vocals, Thomas Cassell on mandolin, Ben Somerville on bass, Alex Genova on banjo, and Sam Weiss on fiddle. ‘Love Train’ was written by Mason Via, Charlie Chamberlain, and Marty Dodson.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
