Melissa Carper is a talented singer-songwriter and upright bass player who is worth our intention if for no reason that one of her bands is The Carper Family. Today’s song though is the Western swing informed ‘Makin’ Memories‘ which is taken from Carper’s upcoming solo album ‘Daddy’s Country Gold‘ which is out on March 19th.
Although the album does evoke the Patsy Cline and Hank Williams Melissa Carper heard at home the Daddy of the title is Carper herself – it’s a nickname she was gifted by her bandmates because she always knew how to “take care of ‘bidness’.” Melissa Carper has lived in a number of music cities – New Orleans, New York City, Austin, and eventually Nashville – often busking to make ends meet until gigs came along. As well as the aforementioned power trio The Carper Family, Melissa Carper also holds a spot in award-winning Arkansas foursome Sad Daddy, and founded roots duo Buffalo Gals with Sad Daddy bandmate and girlfriend Rebecca Patek.
