Mildred have not let the grass grow; their debut release came out earlier this year, and already they have new music in the form of a double A-side single, of which Bird Laugh forms an A-side. As noted in the review of Fenceline, Mildred have some fancy-pants smart band members in the form of Henry Easton Koehler (vocals, guitar), Jack Schrott (vocals, guitar), Matt Palmquist (vocals, bass, woodwinds) or Will Fortna (drums, production). Without checking, which one do you think farms, who’s studying for a PhD in subatomic physics, who is a lawyer and which band member is an architect? Diverse. Smart. Make good music.
Mildred is also a band made up of four songwriters. Bird Laugh’s lyrics were written by Jack Schrott, who says: “Wrote this song after a tour on the West Coast. I was thinking about a snowstorm we got stuck in. I think the song is about resigning yourself to something. Some things you can’t fight, like snow falling. And sometimes the things you resign yourself to are the most beautiful things, like snow.”
There’s a chance to hear Mildred live as they tour the UK this November; London dates are already sold out, there’s a waiting list though. Probably bigger venues next time, so catch them this time around for bragging rights (if that sort of thing matters to you, of course).
