Here’s the latest single from award-winning singer-songwriter Arborist, also known as Mark McCambridge. The Taming Of Horses features layers of atmospheric instrumentation that lift up the tuneful keys and reinforce McCambridge’s ranging, melodic voice. His vocals flow in an engaging stream of thoughts, observations and images that prompt reflection and remain with you: “Time is all in our minds.” Directed by Tristan Crowe, using footage taken from the Prelinger and NASA archives, the video is a kaleidoscope of fleeting, mirrored images and found footage, feeling something like lost memories resurfacing.
The Taming Of Horses will appear on the forthcoming album, Looking For Love, due out on 16th October. This, the fourth album from Arborist, is the first album to be self-produced by McCambridge himself, mostly from his home studio. The result is a sense of intimacy and closeness and a beautiful collection of well-crafted music. The songs explore love and its absence, using McCambridge’s hometown of Belfast to represent the wider world, like a microcosm of all that the world offers. Sitting within the harshness of modern society, the well-observed narratives follow a range of fictional characters who walk the streets and search the dark corners, looking for love.
