Danny & the Champions of the World have announced the release of their new album “You Are Not A Stranger Here” on 18th October 2024 via Loose. The band has also announced a major UK tour for March 2025 in addition to their show at London’s The Garage on 2nd November 2024 with special guest Annie Dressner.

It’s been seven years since their last album “Brilliant Light“ (2017). “You Are Not A Stranger Here” is the band’s seventh record and sees them exploring new musical terrain. Produced by Champs’ keyboard player Thomas Collison and featuring what’s described as “some of frontman Danny George Wilson’s most compelling songs to date”, the album will be available on transparent vinyl, CD and download.  You can pre-order at this link.

As well as core members Collison, guitarist Paul Lush, pedal steel player Henry Senior, drummer Steve Brookes and saxophonist ‘Free Jazz’ Geoff Widdowson, the record boasts contributons from Daniel Hawkins on bass and Lachlan Wilson, who is Danny’s uncle, on saxophone. “You Are Not A Stranger Here” is also a bit of a concept album. “The way the record is laid out is across a day,” explains Wilson. “You hear the weather report in the morning and then you’re immediately into this question of ‘I know what I’m doing, but I don’t know why I’m doing it anymore. As it goes through the day, you get the commute, the hold message from a call centre and finally ending the day back home with ‘Sooner or Later.'”

The band has released ‘Sooner or Later’ as the second single and you can see the video below. Tickets go on general sale Friday 13th September 2024 at 10:00am via this link.
