Preview: Dan Stuart “Marlowe’s Revenge” UK tour begins next week

Dan Stuart as his alter ego Marlowe Billings (or vice versa) returns to the UK for a series of dates next week.  The sets will feature songs from his solo career and the Green On Red catalogue and will also incorporate a very brief reading from his third and latest novel ‘Marlowe’s Revenge’ along with stories of his time with Green on Red. Stuart’s new novel sees him returning to Tucson, Arizona in the ’90s to get clean and save a failing marriage. Staving off demons with countless rounds of golf, he stumbles into his hometown’s crime-ridden underbelly, where old friends and a brewing cartel war threaten his sobriety, his sanity, and his life. The musician and author will be familiar to many AUK readers as the leader of Green On Red from its emergence as one of the leading lights of LA’s Paisley Underground.

As a writer, his first novel and so-called  “false memoir”, ‘The Deliverance of Marlowe Billings’ was published in 2014. The follow-up, ‘The Unfortunate Demise of Marlowe Billings’ emerged four years later.  All three of his books all have been accompanied/inspired by albums of the same name.

Tom Heyman, whose latest album, ’24th Street Blues’ was reviewed here in January, provides support on all dates but the Laugharne Festival.  On it, the adopted San Franciscan sings of a more rank-and-file locale, balancing the encroaching darkness of an overdeveloped cityscape with the fragile, abiding beauty of the place he calls home.
