Ryan Wayne “Wherever You Land” – a tribute to John Prine

Canadian Ryan Wayne was born and raised in the blue collar town of Oshawa, just east of Toronto.  Ryan grew up surrounded by music – his father is a songwriting truck driver, and Ryan spent countless summer nights singing with aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and friends at the family cabin in the Madawaska Valley.  His first wider recognition came as a founding member and songwriter in The Warped 45s (Pheromone Recordings).

In early 2022, after several years away from touring and recording, Ryan suffered two strokes. As part of the healing process, Ryan was drawn back to the music world and began the final production and mixing on a series of self-produced songs with Grammy-Award winning producer and mixing engineer, Malcolm Burn (Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, Patti Smith, Daniel Lanois), that will comprise the record, “Crow Amongst the Sparrows”, to be released in 2023.

Speaking of ‘Wherever You Land’ Ryan Wayne has said “‘Wherever You Land’ started as a hypothetical letter to the late great John Prine in the wake of his death in the early days of the pandemic. His new single brings forth the message that life is precious. None of us are exempt from the fates of illness, old age, or dying. There is beauty in the small things.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
