That’s it from us for another week dear reader. I was chatting to one of our writers earlier this week about my love for Grant McLennan, one half of course of the seminal Australian band The Go Betweens. Back in 1994, near the start of his solo career McLennan took a left turn and released a double album of country songs which was by far and away at the time my album of the year and was what I’ve always thought was one of things which inadvertently lead me to Americana. The album still stands out now, in my humble opinion very few double albums can carry the weight of that many tracks and nearly always sound better as a leaner single album but “Horsebreaker Star” is an exception and the album’s climax is this the title track which still sounds incredible to these ears. What a sad loss it was to lose him so early almost 20 years ago now.
Take care everyone, don’t forget Palestine and keep fighting the fascists. Have a good one.
Was at his last Go Betweens gig in Brisbane at The Tivoli. Show was recorded Striped Sunlight Sound. Saw him support Paul Kelly too
