Portland’s Glitterfox are one of the most exciting acts out there, with the seven-song recent release “Highway Forever” demonstrating their fabulous songcraft and gift for memorable melody. The duo, frontperson Solange Igoa and guitarist Andrea Walker, have been making music together for over a decade. Until recently, they were also a couple. However, their amicable split has not altered their deep, powerful musical connection. Indeed, Igoa says: “When I’m singing Andrea’s songs, I can feel the emotions they were feeling. We’re experiencing this life together.” Walker adds: “Solange is my voice.” That rare musical chemistry and understanding are the foundation for beautiful tunes that blend Americana with new wave pop and other genre-blending influences.
Here’s the good-humoured video for new single ‘Wildfires’, directed by Kaylee Kotkins. With typically infectious, catchy hooks, Glitterfox have created an ’80s-inspired song that builds to the climax of Igoa’s repeated final line: “Wildfires make their own weather.”
The single appears on “Decoder”, the duo’s new album, produced by Chris Funk of The Decemberists. Due on 22nd August 2025, the album promises to be a highlight of the summer. A very personal collection, “Decoder” explores themes of self-discovery and identity. Igoa says, “Of course, I have a lot of feelings. When Andrea and I first started playing music together, I was a completely different person. I didn’t really know a lot about myself yet. Through our experiences together, I’ve learned to be unapologetically myself. We both have.” UK fans can see Glitterfox on a short run of dates across the UK, including at the Green Note in London on 1st July and at the Maverick Festival in Suffolk the following weekend. Check them out – this is high-quality songwriting.
