Something for the weekend: Loudon Wainwright III “Just Like Buster Keaton”

Well that’s it from us for another week dear reader, and here at AUK Towers in Liverpool we are already covered in glitter and Lambrini in preparation for tomorrow’s Eurovision antics. I did try to find an americana song from Eurovision over the years, but I don’t think one exists – let’s face it, americana isn’t very Eurovisiony, so in the absence of that, we leave you this week with something totally different – the new single by Loudon Wainwright III. ‘Just Like Buster Keaton’ was written by George Gerdes and Marc Jonson, two singer/songwriters that go all the way back to Loudon’s earliest adventures on the folk scene. It has never before been recorded or released. The banjo and tambourine accompaniment nod in the direction of the minstrel/medicine show traditions that Keaton grew up with on the road with his family act.

Loudon commented: “I first heard George Gerdes singing “Just Like Buster Keaton“ maybe 30 years ago. He and Marc Jonson put the tune together. George was my best buddy and a major songwriting influence for me. The Double G shuffled off the mortal coil in January of 2021 so it makes me very happy to think of people digging his work.”

As always, have a good one.
