The latest single from Minneapolis singer-songwriter Mary Bue is an upbeat, infectious song that will get you moving. “Right Now” is delivered with a sense of urgency, propelled along by Steve Price’s bass and Richard Medek’s compelling drums. Bue’s vocal is direct, almost spoken at times, grabbing your attention and listing a series of scenarios that could be taking place in the world at any given moment in time: the movement of seasons, the flight of geese, the decay of flowers, birth, death, sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Like a stream of consciousness, her images are swept along by musical currents provided by Jeremy Ylvisaker on guitar, Julia Floberg on cello and Shanon Frid-Rubin’s violin.
The single is taken from “The Wildness of Living and Dying”, Bue’s ninth album, which is due on 7th February 2025. Bue is an international retreat guide and yoga teacher as well as being a prolific songwriter, and she brings a little of that spiritual sensibility to her songs. The new collection explores a range of themes, including trauma and healing through music. In 2020, a carjacking experience inspired new songs that reflect a sense of vulnerability and destruction but also growth, change and resilience. These are songs that deliver hope and compassion. Enjoy.
