Something for the weekend: Truman Sinclair “Joel Roberts”

Well that’s it from us for another week dear reader and we leave you with a track from a new to these pages 22 year old artist called Truman Sinclair whose debut album “American Recordings” was released last week. The album pivots from his background in the emo and punk scenes of Los Angeles when he was still in high school to a new sound which has a more americana bent which may be partly down to his upbringing where his parents apparently listened to the likes of Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and Woody Guthrie. Now that is a curriculum we could go for.

The highlight of the record for me is this song “Joel Roberts” which is a kind of gunslinging tale but with contemporary relevance – you’ll see what I mean if you listen. My 10-year-old has been belting this out in the car in recent weeks, although I’m not actually sure he knows what he’s singing. I told him if he does that in school he’ll probably get referred to Prevent. Anyway Truman if you’re reading, please send us your album for review. Take care everyone, don’t forget Palestine and keep fighting the fascists – they’re everywhere these days. See you next week.
