This is the last time I mention Black Deer, I promise, but when the news came through of the cancellation, I took decisive action (a first for me). I had known that a rather marvellous festival was taking place on the west coast of Wales, on the same dates, in the city (the smallest in the UK) of St David’s, and when this article goes live, I will be negotiating my left-hand drive van through the hallowed lands of the Dragon on my way there. It’s a fabulous bill and by all accounts a wonderful weekend. Just the setup has got me licking my lips with anticipation. Two venues with several artists over three nights, and then at the same time and during the day too, at least 6 smaller venues putting the acts on for free, and these acts may or may not be playing the larger venues. Potentially, I could see several acts more than once in different locations. Genius.

If this wasn’t enough, the lineup is spectacular, including the likes of  Courtney Marie Andrews, Willy Mason, This is the Kit, Peter Bruntnell, B C Camplight, Katy J Pearson, Small Town Jones, etc., etc. I could go on, but it’s better that you should head to their website to see what you’re missing or even get in a car immediately and head West!

How does all this wonderful stuff happen? I intend to find out and bring you an interview with those responsible that will air on the weekly podcast (if you haven’t listened already you really should, feedback has been very positive and I’m working hard!)

So the music this week is the playlist to get me in the mood. Some Jones and some Mason, how brilliant. The radio show was less problematic this week, thank f*ck, and featured amongst others Joan Shelley, Mike Cooley, Midlake, Eels, Richmond Fontaine and a classic Tom Petty album to celebrate what would have been his 75th birthday last Monday. Gawd bless ‘im. As ever…
