Sounds from beyond the Shed – Week 53

Govt advisor is idiot shock..

It’s no wonder education is in a mess.

This week a Govt. adviser on education and a Headteacher of a London school Katharine Birbalsingh said the following whilst giving evidence to an education committee “Just from my own knowledge of these things, physics isn’t something that girls tend to fancy. They don’t want to do it,”

What the actual fuck? Are we living in 1910?

Asked to explain why she thought girls would be less likely to make the choice, she responded: “Research generally, they say that’s just a natural thing. I mean I don’t know. I can’t say – I mean, I’m not an expert at that sort of thing. That’s what they say.”

This is the woman in charge of social mobility in class rooms! What the actual fuck?

I’m not sure why I am shocked at this, I mean it’s not like we are constantly in awe of the excellence and expertise coming from within Govt. but I had assumed that we were in the 21st Century at least. Thank God she’s not in a position of influence… ffs!

This week I have been listening even more to the extraordinary Whitney K (album review coming soon to the site) as well as some wonderful new Michael Head and some obscure but compelling Momus (he’s Justin Currie’s cousin don’t ya know). As ever take what you want or need.
