Steep Canyon Rangers “Sweet Spot” – touching bluegrass nirvana

All different things can be a ‘Sweet Spot‘ and bluegrass champions Steep Canyon Rangers list a large number of them on their new single which emerged about a week ago.  Of the track banjo player Graham Sharp says: “Everybody’s got that place or state of mind that is the sweet spot; it’s not always easy to get there but when it’s just right, you know it. This song seemed like the perfect chance to let a bunch of voices sing about that sweet spot, wherever you can find it.”

They have an extensive tour coming up, with around half the dates being appearances with dapper banjo master Steve Martin and comedian Martin Short (who may also be dapper, we can’t be expected to know everything).  Apparently Steve Martin also does jokes…who knew?  But, and it is the proverbial big but, all these dates are in the USA, not a single solitary UK date, not even a European leg of the tour.   Ah well, hit play on ‘Sweet Spot‘ and forget that disappointment for a while.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
