The Rave-Ups “How Old Am I?” – jeez, don’t make me guess

Thirty two.  Not a confession of age but the years between the Rave-Ups last album (1990’s Epic released ‘Chance‘) and their newest release ‘Tomorrow‘ which is released on February 4th on Omnivore Recordings.  ‘How Old Am I?‘ is the lead single and it shows The Rave-Ups continuing to blend a punk sensibility with an Alt-Country attitude.  If you’re looking for a guitar band today, then here it is.

The new material is based around a reunion of the original Los Angeles lineup of the band – singer/songwriter Jimmer Podrasky, guitarist Terry Wilson, bassist Tommy Blatnik, and drummer Timothy Jimenez.   Jimmer Podrasky has spoken of his pleasure at getting back in the studio with the band: “The best part of this project was when the four of us were in a room making music together – that was brilliant. I never doubted how the four of us would sound. That was the most joyous thing about making this. We didn’t over intellectualize or analyse. We trusted each other musically and the finished album made it all worthwhile.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
