Tiny Ruins “Dogs Dreaming” – heading into a summery dream

So, what do dogs dream of?  We don’t know – but Hollie Fullbrook of Tiny Ruins speculates that “Like the dogs in their dreams, paws know when to run / The body knows what it needs, like the beat knows the drum.”   It was a thought that occurred whilst Fullbrook was on a solo expedition to the Āwhitu Peninsula in New Zealand, when Fullbrook surveyed the isolated lighthouse alone at dusk, freaking herself out in the process.

Dogs Dreaming‘ comes from the new album ‘Ceremony’, the first new recording by Tiny Ruins since 2019’s ‘Olympic Girls‘ and their third album since the band got together in 2009.  It’s a classy cut of modern indie-folk, which embraces the pursuit of life – even if it might be scary, even if it might hurt sometimes.  The reward of experience remains.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
