It’s official – coming direct from the pop-tastic UK Official Charts who, along side the usual pop charts of yore also produce the happening Americana Charts that the kids demand these days. And it was a good year for The Boss who took both the highly coveted number one spot as well as the quite coveted number seven spot.
We’re always fretting about What This Americana Thing Is – and reading through this list only really provides a partial answer. No problems with Springsteen, Dylan, Neil Young. But then Elvis Costello, for example, can hardly be regarded as a pure americana artist – and the latest album really swings quite far towards the jazz label. And some might regard Chicks as more of a country band. Taylor Swift? Hmm.
