‘Good Luck Charmer‘ is the new original tune from Darling West, the duo, of Mari Sandvær Kreken and Tor Egil. It’s a song that came together around the time of their most recent album ‘We´ll Never Know Unless We Try‘ but was held over – until now (well, until October 2nd when it’ll be available as a single).
Mari explains the background to recording this new single: “Around the time that we wrote songs for our latest record ‘We´ll Never Know Unless We Try’, Tor sat down playing with words and came up with this expression “good luck charmer.” The song didn’t feel right for the album, but we still liked it a lot, so when we had time to spare this spring, we brought it into the studio with Thomas and Christer, our band, for them to add their flavour to it. We’re excited to share the result and give people a chance to revel in some sweet and positive vibes.”
‘Good Luck Charmer’ certainly charms – with Mari’s vocals floating over a simple banjo introduction that bursts into a warm vibe that nods towards inspirations like Fleetwood Mac and Jackson Browne. Darling West had been touring pretty solidly for the two years prior to recording their latest album in Oslo. Naturally they took their take on Americana to the USA on regular visits – they also played London at this year’s AmericanaFest. Plans for return visits had to go on hold…you know why…but who knows what 2021 will bring?
