The Blue Highways are North London’s latest purveyors of alt-rock – it’s a family band based around the musical partnership of singer Callum Lury with his brothers lead guitarist Jack and drummer Theo.  ‘Out On The Line‘ is the new single, released tomorrow, and sees The Blue Highways exploring optimism for the future, and considerations of venturing into the romantic realm again.  It moves from a gentle enough ballad to an ever more strident rock euphoria as the decision to re-engage with the world takes hold.

The song is also the title track of the new album from The Blue Highways, and Callum Lury explained its theme: “the album is an ode to the enduring spirit of the individual with many of the tracks revolving around people who think they have failed when in fact they have been failed by things outside their control that have left them clinging on to the last strands of hope and resilience they can find. The quest for family, home, love and meaning and not to give up however difficult that can seem.”

Since forming in 2018 The Blue Highways have completed many headline and support tours across the UK including support slots for Iris Dement, Robert Vincent, Bennett Wilson Poole and Under The Apple Tree tours with Wildwood Kin and Ferris and Sylvester.  And they had the closing slot on the Night Tales stage last night at this year’s Americana Music Association (UK) Americana Fest showcases.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
