Here’s the latest release from GRAMMY Award-winning Amanda Shires. ‘Piece of Mind’ is full of raw, emotional energy, which is evident in the gritty guitar and in Shire’s urgent fiddle and heartfelt words. It’s a song about breaking free from the past and taking control after feeling dismissed at the end of a relationship. The feelings are real and authentic, which is conveyed through the power of Shires’ vocal performance. She explains: “This one came when I was finally done being polite about pain. I wrote this song because I never got closure. ‘Piece of Mind’ became the place I said everything I didn’t get to say. Writing it gave me an ending. Not tidy. Not bitter. Just mine.” The video, directed by Taylor G. Kelly, is shot in cinematic fashion and full of drama, in keeping with the song’s narrative.
This is the latest single taken from “Nobody’s Girl”, the forthcoming album due on 26th September 2025. This collection is honest and open-hearted, following Shires’ resilient journey from heartbreak and loss to self-discovery and hope. The multi-instrumentalist delivers ukulele and tenor guitar as well as her usual fiddle-playing. Acclaimed for her solo work, Shires has also collaborated with the likes of John Prine and was the founder of The Highwomen, a supergroup that includes Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris and Brandi Carlile. Shires’ last album, ‘Take It Like A Man’, was a critical triumph and the new record is highly anticipated. While you’re waiting for it, enjoy this emotive video.
