New York band Bandits on the Run have just released a new feel-good video for Am I Your Mirror?, an uplifting song that explores the complex spaces between people who love one another. Lyrically, the song is sensitive and thoughtful, questioning our relationships and whether we reflect or see through one another: “Are we connecting // Or am I just talking… And how strong // Do I need to be to shake you loose // I’m so used to performing for you // No, I don’t want to leave you // Please don’t get confused // I just wanna hear my voice when I talk to you // I want to come back to my body // I’m holding you, but you’re not me… Am I your mirror // Or are you my window?”
Over rich, full instrumentation and lush, sweeping production, the trio’s voices are typically impressive, following a beautiful melody and soaring on sweet harmonies. Leading the singing this time around is Regina Strayhorn, whose vocal performance is deeply heartfelt and full of character and soul. The visual reinforces the song’s theme as we follow the bandmates filming one another and using mirrors in various shops to reflect each other. Both the video and the song itself leave you with Bandits on the Run’s infectious sense of joy and musical playfulness.
Bandits on the Run features the musical talents of three lead vocalists: Adrian Blake Enscoe, Sydney Shepherd and Regina Strayhorn, along with an array of instruments, including cello, guitar and accordion. The three began working together after a chance encounter while busking in New York’s subways. Their energetic song Love in the Underground was featured on the NPR Tiny Desk Contest’s Top Shelf in 2019, gaining attention and widespread acclaim.
2025 was a busy year for the trio, who toured with The Wood Brothers, released The Shakespeare Tapes EP, and sold out a residency at Bowery Electric in New York. This year looks to be just as exciting, with the promise of more new music soon and a US tour in support of Alan Doyle coming up, too. Check this out and elevate your mood.
