Video: Beans on Toast “Myths & Legends”

New music from Beans on Toast always brings with it a smile because we can expect warm music and words from the heart.  He writes and performs with joy, often finding and sharing the beauty in our world and in the human spirit.  He can take complex subject matter and, with a few wise words, make it real and relevant and optimistic.  ‘Myths & Legends’ is such a song.  The video is shot in a beautiful location, simple and celebratory.  Behind Beans on Toast, Matt Millership – also known as punky pianist Tensheds – provides beautiful, fluent keys.  With just the flowing piano and Beans’ gruff vocal, the song is sparse but still manages to feel rich and textured.  He sings of life and purpose and how we can be the lead character in our lives, bringing meaning to our existence: “We can be the myths and legends for future generations // For future generations // You play the lead // This is your story.”

Every year Beans releases an album on 1st December and the upcoming ‘Wild Goose Chasers’ promises something new and different.  The twelve songs on the album feature just the combination of Beans and Millership’s piano; there’s a beauty in the simplicity and the stripped back nature of the songs draws attention to the magical folklore and otherworldly mystery of Beans’ lyrics.

Beans says of the new songs and their themes: “These songs are about trading modern society for a wilder, more feral existence. Songs that dig deep into the meaning of life and our purpose on Earth. They provide an exit strategy from a boring dystopia by gambling the flood for a fairy tale. This might sound pompous, but such is life, and such is the wild goose chase.”  Music that gives us heart and hope.  Enjoy.
