Eight-time GRAMMY winner Beck has joined forces with a host of talented artists recently, releasing collaborations with the likes of Orville Peck, the Black Keys, Gorillaz and Chemical Brothers. For his latest single, Beck has teamed up with the fabulous Sierra Ferrell for a reimagined new version of the acoustic classic Ride Lonesome. Ferrell’s voice is heavenly, and she is the perfect vocal partner for Beck as they deliver powerful lines like: “She is gone // And you can’t put your arms ’round a memory.” The arrangement is gorgeous, the song swelling around their rising and plaintive voices. Masterful stuff.
Directed by Mikai Karl and produced by Ryan Smale, the elegant visual features the graceful movement of horses, beautifully captured in slow motion; artful close-ups show the horses’ glossy coats and the whirling flies, and we pull back and see their powerfully flexed muscles and kicked-up dust. It’s hypnotic viewing and shapes the way we listen to the song.
Throughout September and October, Beck will embark on the Ride Lonesome tour across Canada and the USA. This follows successful recent tours, including acclaimed shows with native orchestras at locations like New York’s Carnegie Hall and London’s Royal Albert Hall.
