What a way to finish the year. ‘The KKK Took May Baby Away’ is the final song from the acclaimed album ‘The New OK’, which was the second from Drive-By Truckers this year. Just like the Ramones original, this is full of infectious energy and makes you want to dance. Excellent vocals are provided by bassist Matt Patton. The recent album began life as an EP, collecting together some of the songs from sessions for ‘The Unraveling’ released earlier in 2020.
However, with a summer of political chaos, pandemic heartache and a powerful protest movement, the band were inspired to write another full album that Patterson Hood says: “…hopefully balances out the darkness of our current situation with a hope for better days and nights ahead.” As 2020 draws to a close, we’re all hoping for better days.
