Here is recent Dropkick Murphys’ single ‘All You Tories’, a loud and emotive political statement delivered in solidarity with the RMT, NHS workers and others striking in seek of better pay and working conditions. It’s a timely reworking and reimagining of the song ‘All You Fonies (Bound To Lose)’, full of energy and heart, a propulsive, driving singalong and a direct statement of intent. Dropkick Murphys have recently embarked on a series of arena dates in the UK and Ireland. Footage for ‘All You Tories’ was recorded at Cardiff and Wembley Arenas and it’s great to see the audience particpating and singing along. The animation in the video was provided courtesy of the RMT.
Frontman and Dropkick Murphys founder Ken Casey says of the song: “In support of all our Union friends in the UK fighting the good fight against the elitist Tory political party we made this music video in association with the RMT (The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers). On our recent UK shows we changed the words to the song ‘All You Fonies (Bound To Lose)’ to ‘All You Tories’, in support of the striking railroad and transit workers, nurses, fire fighters, teachers, ambulance staff and health workers. Best of luck in your struggle friends.”
The original version of the song featured on the studio album ‘This Machine Still Kills Fascists’, which was released early in 2023 – see our review here. The intriguing project was a collaboration across time with Woody Guthrie, bringing new life and Dropkick Murphy’s music to his irrepressible lyrics. It is both a sign of Guthrie’s genius and a sign of the sorry state of our world that his words still speak to us with such relevance today, so many decades after they were written. Play this loud and chant along.
