Two guitars propped against a memorial to fallen soldiers. That is the subtle opening of this new video from Jess Malin and Gogol Bordello’s Eugene Hutz.  But all subtlety ends there as the two singers launch into a barn-burning cover of The Pogues ‘If Should Fall from Grace with God’. They channel the nearly unhinged energy of the seminal Irish band as well as the punk attitude both performers are known for. They recorded this song as an exclusive bandcamp.com release from Velvet Elk Records as a fundraiser for the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation to support the victims of Russian aggression in Ukraine.

“Universe knows Jesse and I bonded over Pogues years ago,” says Hutz, “and it’s only natural that we sing this anti-colonial song for Ukraine now.  his land was always ours!   And no amount of Moscow propaganda can undo оver а thousand уеаrs of history. It is also a natural fit once again, since scientists uncovered that Irish people come from Modern Day Ukraine territory! And guess where I read that?  In the Irish Independent.”

Jesse Malin is on tour now with Brian Fallon in Europe, and will be headlining the US in June.

The U.S.-Ukraine Foundation supports  the development of democracy, a free market economy and human rights in Ukraine, and the strategic partnership between the U.S. and Ukraine.
