Here is Poor Black Woman Blues, the powerful new single from Oh Pray Tell, also known as the trio of Sally Titasey, Shayna-Adjowa Jones, and Betty Supple. It’s a song of resistance and finding strength together, a song of resilience through struggle and, ultimately, reclamation. In fluent melody and graceful harmony, the words flow in a stream of storytelling and imagery. Jones explains: “This one is especially potent to my heart. The lyrics flowed from my hand one fateful day when life’s intensity had me shackled to the ground. But this is a song about standing up, fighting back, and owning every ounce of power.”
Musically, the song is a soulful and absorbing blend of roots music, gospel, acoustic R&B and folk with an outstanding vocal performance at its heart. The video, filmed by Aubrey Burke, is as dramatic as the music; artfully directed and visually cinematic.
Having recently released a debut EP, Oh Pray Tell are in the process of recording their first full album, which can be expected in February 2027. In the meantime, since forming as a trio, they have supported Juno Award nominees PIQSIQ, been invited to perform at Salmon Arm Roots & Blues Festival and have enjoyed a series of sold-out shows in Canada.
