Here is the second single to be taken from the upcoming album by Old Sea Brigade. ‘Day by Day’ is a thoughtful, introspective song through which Old Sea Brigade (AKA Ben Cramer) addresses the themes of inevitable change, impermanence and loss. The song builds, becoming more intense as Cramer repeats: “And I think of you growing old // And it breaks my heart,” a heartfelt and honest response to the most human of subjects. Cramer’s distinctive voice echoes over a strong beat and dreamy synths, continuing the stylistic direction of previous single ‘How it Works’.
Cramer says of the song: “Although, thematically and lyrically it might sound like a lockdown-inspired track, I started writing ‘Day by Day’ while on tour in 2018. Lyrically, I wanted to try and capture the restlessness of constantly being on the move. I often struggle with trying to balance excitement of new surroundings with exhaustion from lack of sleep. Through all of that though, I try to find little moments of inspiration where I can be present.”
Look out for ‘Motivational Speaking’, due for release on 14th May. The new album looks set to build on a successful run for Old Sea Brigade, following an excellent collaboration with Luke Sital-Singh in 2020 and tens of millions of streams of his solo material. Definitely one to watch.
